How to Set up SnapChat Filters for Your Hotel

INTRODUCTION

Snapchat filterA Snapchat filter is a graphic that overlays a photo or video you take. It’s a quick and easy way of adding decorations or branding to your photos and videos.

(On the image on the right, you’ll see that Yahoo! is promoting its fantasy baseball league through a spring training filter.)

Filters are different from Snapchat lenses, which use augmented reality to enhance or distort a photo or video through facial recognition.

After a user takes a photo or video, they can swipe to add filters. Your hotel, resort or bed & breakfast can create a geofilter for your property that is only accessible to people inside the boundary you set.

You should create filters of your restaurant, pool, events, room specials, etc., to build brand awareness or maintain top-of-mind awareness by having your guests and visitors spread your messages to their respective networks.

STEPS FOR CREATING YOUR OWN FILTER FOR SNAPCHAT MARKETING

  1. On your computer, go to www.snapchat.com/create, scroll down to Filters and click on “Create now.” In the app, tap on your profile photo in the top left, tap on the sprocket icon in the top right, choose “Filters & Lenses,” tap on “Get Started!” and choose “Filter.”
  2. You either can choose a template (e.g. weddings or food & bars) or you can design a filter from scratch. From there, you can change the color scheme, add text and/or add elements (e.g. bitmoji, your logo, etc.). You also can create your own filter in Photoshop or Illustrator (1080 px wide by 1920 px tall PNG file) and upload it.
  3. After you’re done designing, choose the time period for your filter to appear. It can be one time (e.g. noon-8 p.m. March 26) or be repeating.
  4. Now you get to choose the boundary. Type in the address of your property to start. You can then change the boundary lines, which automatically encompass a minimum required area of 20,000 square feet. You’ll see the price for the filter, which starts at $5, increases as you increase the area.
  5. The final step is to check out and pay. Remember to tell your guests and visitors about your Snapchat filters–they’re no good if they’re not used!
