INTRODUCTION
Meta Business Suite can be a valuable centralized tool for businesses that manage social media accounts and assets such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Meta ad accounts.
It has a variety of features, such as content management tools and analytics, and it allows you to assign different access levels and specific assets to individuals within your organization. However, as your marketing and social media teams change, you may find yourself in a situation where you lose access to your account.
This can come in a variety of forms, ranging from complete loss of access to the business account and its assets to partial access, which still allows you to manage some features like posting content to your channels, but not others, like adding new assets or granting others access to manage your accounts. This article focuses on the latter.
Following are some steps to take to regain full admin access to your Meta Business account if you only have partial access.
CONTACT OTHER ADMINS
The easiest way to regain admin access to your Meta Business account is to get in touch with an existing “full control” Admin. If you still have partial access to your Meta Business account, go to settings and select “People” to view who has full control of the account. Oftentimes, this individual is a former employee who set up the account or managed your social media in the past.
If you are able to contact that individual, you can request they grant you and/or others in your organization full access to the account. You should then remove any individuals who are no longer actively engaged with your company to avoid issues in the future.
OPEN A CASE WITH META SUPPORT
If your business or organization is no longer affiliated with the admin(s) with full control, you will need to submit a case with Meta Support. Go to your business settings and click the help icon. Then click “Create New Case” and select the issue. You will likely need to choose “Other issues.” From there, select your business account from the asset list and select “other issue” again if you don’t see a specific issue that involves admin access.
Please note, the exact steps and options within Meta Support may look slightly different from account to account.
Once you select your asset and issue, a “Chat” option will appear in the “Get Help” section. Write out your issue in the message box, and make sure to be specific and include your business account ID. For instance, “Our social media manager left the company, and I’d like to file a Business Manager Admin dispute to regain full access to our Meta Business account with the ID: [insert business ID number].”
Add your phone number and confirm your email address. Then click “Start chat.”
You will be connected with a Meta support professional who can guide you through the next steps. Have your business ID handy and be prepared to reiterate the issue, as they will likely ask you again.
FILE A BUSINESS MANAGER ADMIN DISPUTE AND SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION
The Meta support professional should direct you to file a Business Manager Admin dispute (as indicated above), which will require documentation. If you have these materials ready, you can file the dispute immediately; otherwise, you will need to open a new case once you have the required documents, which are listed below.
- A signed statement with the following:
- Company letterhead
- The Meta Business account name and ID you are requesting access to
- A description of the requestor relationship with the business and authority to request access to the business account. You could state you are the owner or the marketing/social media manager for the company, for example.
- Personal Facebook account information (e.g., profile URL and associated email) for the person who is requesting full admin access
- An explanation of the request, such as, “The former admin was terminated/left the company and another person needs to be granted admin access.”
- The name of the current person(s) who manages the business account, as applicable, and their relationship to the business OR a reasonable explanation of why the current admin(s) is/are unknown to the requester.
- A declaration that the information you have provided is true and accurate, e.g., “I certify that the information provided is true and accurate.”
- A clear and readable signature, either signed by hand or digitally confirmed
- A copy of a valid government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license or passport) of the individual signing the statement (e.g., the person requesting full admin access)
- At least one form of supporting documentation:
- Utility bill
- Articles or certificates of incorporation
- Business licenses or permits
- Bank statements
Meta estimates it takes 24-48 hours to review the request after you submit the dispute and documentation; however, it can sometimes take longer, especially if your specific situation is more complex. You can check the status of your case in the Help Center (Business Settings > Help). You can also request an update and Meta will follow up via the email address you used to open the case.
Once a decision has been made, you will receive an explanation of the outcome via email.
