Jamboree to Kickoff Black Restaurant Week

(MADISON, Wis.) – A food cart and catering Jamboree will kick off the 4th Annual Black Restaurant Week. The event will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at the Badger Rock Community Center and will feature sample tasting of culinary delights from food carts and caterers.  Black Restaurant Week will officially open Sunday, Aug. 11 and run through Sunday, Aug. 18.

The Jamboree will feature $2 samples, children’s activities, music and a chance to get to know your neighbor.  The Jamboree is open to all of Madison.

“Here in Madison, we have seen an exponential leap in food carts this season,” MadisonBlack Chamber of Commerce Spokesperson and event coordinator Milele Chikasa Anana said. “Also, the week gives options for people to find different food than they’re used to. It also gives the establishments the chance to show off the dishes they specialize in.”

The goal forBlack Restaurant Week, which started in 2016, is to promote Black restaurants and to let people know they exist. Some specialize in soul food, others in Caribbean and still others in vegetarian.   Most all serve a healthy portion of vegetables along with the entree.

Nearly all the food services from last year are returning, including food carts, restaurants, caterers and those specializing in desserts.
