(MADISON, Wis.)—As the next stage of the Blair Street South project continues, the outbound lanes of E. Washington Avenue, traveling away from the Capitol building, will reopen to two lanes. Meanwhile, the middle inbound lane of E. Washington Avenue will be closed starting May 4, after the morning commute.
“We continue to express our appreciation to everyone who has safely and patiently navigated the changes in traffic around the project site,” City of Madison City Engineer Jim Wolfe said.
The work will take four to six weeks and include concrete pavement removals, excavation and grading and new concrete pavement.
The traffic switch will result in the following changes:
- The left turn lane from S. Blair Street onto westbound E. Washington Avenue (towards the Capitol) will be closed.
- Traffic traveling north on S. Blair Street will be able to turn right onto E. Washington Avenue (away from the Capitol).
- Traffic from southbound N. Blair Street will be right turn-only onto westbound E. Washington Avenue (towards the Capitol).
The entire project is slated to be completed by the fall of 2023.
