Communicator of the Year and Best of Show

Revelation PR, Advertising & Social Media took home two top honors at the annual PRSA-Madison Alchemy Awards held Thursday night.

For the third consecutive year, we won an Award of Excellence, this time in the category of media relations. The campaign also tied for “Best of Show,” which was a pleasant surprise, especially because the of the quality of campaign entries this year.

I was deeply honored to be named the 2013 Communicator of the Year. It’s been quite the year, with some accomplishments including hosting a TV show, launching a coworking space and launching an online newspaper. As I said in my speech last night, I’ve had an incredible journey through the world of public relations, and I’m grateful to the many people who helped me along the way.

A nice note

I meet often with college students, recent graduates and others interested in getting into public relations. My advice includes what skills they need, what to put in their portfolio, how to network and what networking events to attend. Here’s a nice note I received following one such meeting:

“Thank you for taking the time to meet with me this afternoon. I profoundly appreciated your detailed primer on public relations. Your explanations were insightful, concise, and pragmatic. You gave it to me straight, answering nearly every question I had written down before I could even ask. I look forward to enacting your suggestions as I continue pursuing a career in public relations. Thank you for your time and candid advice.”
