MADISON, Wis. — In a quest for an esports championship, four local teams qualified for the 2021 XP League North American Finals, which will take place Aug. 7-8 in Raleigh, N.C.
“I’m proud to send four teams to nationals,” Luis Puesan, XP League Madison Commissioner, said. “The kids have worked extremely hard, and this will be a great opportunity to promote Madison’s growing youth esports community on a national level.”
Madison will be sending four teams, two teams of four players for Fortnite and two teams of six players for Overwatch. The team names are the Madison Marvels and Madison Eagles.
To qualify for nationals, each team competed in the XP League Regional tournament to determine the top-16 teams in each respective game. The regional event was held June 11-12 in Madison.
Participants are playing for the chance to win scholarships, gaming hardware and gaming accessories.
The event will be live streamed on XP League Madison’s Twitch channel, https://www.twitch.tv/xplmadison.
To help offset the financial costs for participant families, XP League Madison created a GoFundMe campaign. For more information or to donate, click here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/xpl-madison-goes-to-nationals.
Puesan was hired June 2 as the new Madison XP League Commissioner. The Florida native was the former Esports Program Director and Head Coach at Edgewood College.
